This website does not claim to provide any new insights into the leaky
homes disaster that has been haunting New Zealand’s real estate market since
the mid-1990s.
All it attempts to achieve is to summarise the main facts relevant to home buyers by collating freely available information that might otherwise take them long to research.
There is a wealth of information on the internet, as any search with ‘NZ’ +
‘leaky homes’ or ‘leaky buildings’ will bring up. However, two websites seem to
sum it up most succinctly:
ConsumerBuild, a website developed by the New Zealand
government Department of Building and Housing, and Consumer NZ, an
independent, non-profit organisation for consumer information and
protection.
Prendos’ website. Prendos is a commercial service
provider specialising in property valuation, building surveying and
construction disputes. (N.B.: The author of this website has no
affiliation with Prendos whatsoever but considers their online resources
to be of excellent quality.)
Most information on this website is
collated from these two sources and attributed accordingly:
P for Prendos, CB for ConsumerBuild. Another good source of information is the
Weathertightness section on the Department of Building and Housing website,
where many info sheets are available for download.
